I couldn't sleep last night so I did a lot of thinking, which can be good or bad.
I was thinking about all the names that I've been called in my life. Of course, I am
referring to the ones said to my face and that can be put in this post.
When I was little, it was mostly just Misty. Unless I was in trouble and then it was either,
MISTY MARIE or MISTY MARIE MAYFIELD....
As I've grown, I've gotten things like ma'am (sorry not old enough for that one yet!!),
Sister Mayfield (which I really don't mind except it makes me feel like my Mom), or Miss Misty (which is just to formal for me).
Now I have never had a nickname. Misty is kind of hard to shorten. (I, myself, can shorter or lengthen any name, case and point, my nephew Noah. I like to call him one or more of at least 15 or so names that I have made up.)
But about 13 years ago I finally got a nickname. I had just started working for the Rays as a nanny and they had an adorable little two year old boy named David. He couldn't say Misty and so Mimi was born. I was thrilled. I loved having a name that was just for me and special. Well that didn't last long because just a couple of months later it was back to Misty. Phillip was born exactly four months after I started. He didn't talk until he was almost three. I was hopeful again, but no, he went straight from nothing to Misty. (Now don't get me wrong, I love my name. I just liked having a nickname given to me by one of my little ones).
I thought the dream was over. I had a niece born around this same time and she started talking about a year or so later and guess what? That's right, I was Mimi again.
This time it stuck.
There are still people, including some of my little ones that call me Misty. (Kayt, Josh, Kyle, Megan, Phillip, and David to name a few. And some of the others, as they are growing are starting to call me Misty too. Which is fine.) One of the great things about being in a, lets face it-HUGE, family is that the little ones just keep coming.
Yay!!!!!
So, I am happy to report that Mimi will live on, hopefully, forever. (Especially if I have anything to say about it!!)
I love being Mimi!!
